I honestly reckon Tassie delivered Falcs must be the best Falcs you can buy
Me and my mates have never had any of the problems / symptoms you describe, nor have we had head gasket problems (no flaming pls. Yes I am aware the problems exist, just saying that me and everyone else I know have never had a problem). The only problem I have seen from an e-series Falc is a leaking power steering pump and constant stalling (from my XR) which I hope to have fixed soon. |

Keep cruising! have you pulled out your spark plugs lately? ... i had rough running from cold starts too, as well as losing a bit of coolant, pulled the plugs out and found traces of water and rust on no.6 spark plug, the head gasket is leaking ... check yours, you might find the same thing |

Normally loosing coolant via the overflow its a leaking cap and should be replaced, if the cap is ok its over pressurising and thats not good. Maybe a stuck thermostat or the worst a leaking head gasket from cylinder into water ports.

a cap will be around $10 and so will a thermostat.
if it's a headgasket, it'll be much more.

Not that bad mate. I'd still prefer Queeny weather (cyclones and s**t aside). And what does cold weather have to do with reliability?

sounds like headgasket or cracked head mine was just the same and it was cracked head.
you will probably find the surge tank is cracked. I have had::::: 1. cracked radiator tank.... blew headgasket 2.... blown gas converter water inlet.... 3....cracked surge tank.....twice till I bought a brand new AU tank and longer hose to RAD $75. 4......water pump coroded leaked till the head cracked due to low coolant. I have over the years replaced everything in the cooling system and just in the past weeks head cracks and surge tank. I recommend to instal the level switch and NEVER EVER let the coolant run low. You will crack head/gasket. |

Oh yes buy the way Mine car is EF 12/95 model with LPG and 330,000klm on the clock,.

Maybe the consistently lower temperatures down that way dont take their toll as much as mainland temperatures do? I doubt you guys spend too many days driving in 40 degree weather... in SA we had a week of 42/43 degree days, which must surely take its toll on the perishable items of the cooling system....

The biggest problem is the radiator, i replaced every hose due to bursting and age, but the radiator was the demon. When they cast the engine the impurities from casting after time build up and settle in your radiator causing it to block up, run hotter and pressurise the cooling system. Get it serviced from a radiator shop you'll be amazed how much crap comes out. Sorry to say but happens to most fords. My ef fairmont was about half full and aroud 170 000ks, now it runs spot on
Tried the radiator flushes they do about a 5 per cent job |

if you've still got the original radiator, you're better off buying a new natrad radiator from ebay than you are getting your radiator cleaned out
