I'm looking at a set of EL GT wheels that the owner is claiming are genuine.
The wheels are interstate so I can't see them except for photos and one thing that has aroused suspicion is the centre caps. The photos show the wheels with caps with the Tickford wings on them. I was positive that genuine EL GT wheels had Ford on the caps.
Am I correct?
Regardless, I'm interested in the wheels but I won't pay as much for copies if I get them!!

Darin.

copies are only 8" wide also, genuine are 8.5"

The correct center caps will be the ford ones

that sounds a bit dodgy, the original ELGT's had a ford badge in the centre of the wheels.. why would someone who has the original rims put a tickford wing in the middle, doesnt sound right..

ive got a pic of the wheels and their definately ford badges tho..

Thanks guys, I'm 99% sure these are copies. Maybe he doesn't know.
The centre caps aren't the same colour, clue 1.
They have Tickford wings, clue 2.
They fit the rims. Ford caps are a different size to the copies caps. Clue three.

I've emailed him to bring this to his attention, waiting now for a) abuse or b)explanation.

also noticed with copies that they have more of a sliver colour to them as opposed to the originals which were a bit golden

genuines are 8.5.
i just sold 3 sets of genuines and they had 17x8.5 cast on the inside of them.
they also had ford on the inside. and standard caps with ford
on them not tickford.

Quick update.
Seller still thinks they're genuine. He was told by the person he bought them from that they were. Have asked him to look in rear of rim and write down all markings for me. That should shed some light.
