I was just wondering on peoples opinions.....
If you were left with a choice on which car to buy BA futura or XR6, which one would you choose. AFAIK the main difference between the two is basically the interior seats, wheels and suspension, and everything else is basically the same between the models.... Now, say for arguments sake, current BA XT/Futura prices (02/03) are around the 11k mark and the same year XR6 is up around the 20k mark just changing the above mentioned to either the same spec or better, would still be better price wise to go for the futura is it not??? Now what are your thoughts??? P.s i couldnt really find a general forum for this thread |

I'd also buy the Futura at those prices and work on her with the saved money. However, if the prices were closer, definately XR6, the value of the nicer interior, wheels, suspension, bodykit alone is probably 5 grand+ cost to you if you were to do it to the Futura. Main advantage with doing up the Futura is you'll go custom choice wheels, bodykit, etc. probably instead of having Ford items like every other XR6...

If you're talking the Auto box, XT/Futura/Fairmont gets a 3.23 diff (LSD optional), XR6 gets a 3.45 diff (LSD optional), XR6T 3.45 LSD diff
Manuals across the range get the 3.45 diff (again LSD optional, except XR6T and XR8 where LSD is standard).

I'd love to see a BA Futura go for 11K. s**t yeah!
If it were me, I'd theoritcally save myself 9K and buy the Futura. 9K for mods on a BA would be too nice! But I think you will find that the gap (in general) wouldn't be that much for an XR6 and Futura in the same nick, with similar k's... |

Totally agree with everyone else.
The prices are a bit off the mark. Here is what they look like: 2002 FORD FALCON BA Futura Sedan 4dr SA 4sp 4.0i Prices based on km 60,000 - 100,000 Trade in price guide $12,000 - $13,600 National average price - private sale $14,700 - $17,500 Price when new (RRP) $37,750 BA XR6 Sedan 4dr SA 4sp 4.0i Prices based on km 60,000 - 100,000 Trade in price guide $15,800 - $17,700 National average price - private sale $19,200 - $22,500 Price when new (RRP) $38,695 So as you see there is not that much between the 2 as you have quoted in your post. Buy whatever your pocket allows you to buy.

I bought a futura simply because it came up at the right price at the auctions

Is the extra street cred of the XR6 worth 4-5K to you? To some people, it is. Others will point to the power output of both motors and take the Futura. |

XR6's hold their value much better. i would take one over the Futura if i had the money because of, better supporting seats, sportier feel to the interior, nice body kit, sportier suspension, rims etc.
where are you priorities? being young my priorities are not in my fellow passengers comfort or convenience with ride height etc, i want a fast, sporty nice looking package. Rhyso

For the Extra few grand the Xr might be better value, but the Trim is hardly anything different or exciting.
I reckon my mates BA Futura with 18" XR8's and Lowered looks better than any of the XR's anyway. There's too much plastic hanging off the XR's anyway. It has cleaner lines, but still with all the Colour coded stuff! It is nice to have an XR though! |
