My fairlane has developed an annoying problem. The left rear power window wont go down from the master switch on the centre console but will go up. The switch on the door will make it go down, but not up.

Any ideas? since this has been happening my auto window winder on the alarm will not work for that window either.

it has me stumped. I slammed the door in frustration and the door switch started to work to make it go up for a short while, but wont do it again now.

pull the doortrim off and check the connection and the switch, i had the same problem with my XF, and that fixed it

its a common problem with hi current switches, you get a carbon build up on the contacts in the switch (caused by a small spark over time just before contact is made) that get worse with the more build up, fortunately with fords these can be pulled apart and cleaned with contact cleaner and emery paper. its alot cheaper than buying new from ford!

I'd go with this solution mate as it's a common problem in electronics in my experience.

yes i have this problem at the moment but with my driver window so its a biatch i thought it was motor at first but thru more looking and puuling apart the buttons i found some very worn buttons so i did a little patch job and used the window once and now its stuffed again so im getting new switches from ford $135 but they $200 if u dont know anyone to get discount from my car is ef fairmont

Perhaps getting a couple of switches from the wreckers would be cheaper than genuine Ford?

my mate has an ea fairlane and hes window switches were stuffed to he got a second hand set from wreckers for $175

in the end $135 aint that much and u never know how long they going to last so it might cost u 50 bucks less now (if u could find em cheap) but if they dont last u long u just lost ur advantage so id rather fork out little extra nd get somthing i know should be pretty good for a few years

Well an update to the story.... A work colleague got in the car and wound the window down, and it decided that is where it wants to stay. No matter what I tried it would not wind back up.

I took the door trim off, damn torx screws, and tried all the plugs, swapped switches, no good. I had to unbolt the window from the winder unit and slide it up and make some little metal hooks to keep it up.

If I press the window down button i can hear the motor try to go down further, but if I press the up button there is nothing.

So I assume the regulator/motor thing has gone *sob*

How easy are these to replace? This looks like a bit of a nightmare to get out, and am not sure if I am able to do it myself.

Any more tips would be greatly appreciated.
