Ok here goes, have an EA2, it keeps revving, it is like the idle motor is not working properly or something, when you start the car it revs really high, and slowly descends. again when putting into drive, it takes off!. and the revs drop very slowly when braking (making it harder to brake), put it back into park and it rev high again then descends. When the car is revving high it flucuates, when idling, the revs will drop then it keeps flucuating from then until in motion again
we have replaced the idle motor, and the alternator. It is very inconsistant. Like it didn't rev for about 6 weeks and now it is doing it again. It has been reset on the computer when the idle motor was changed. The only difference was when it started doing it again it was probably the hottest day we have had for a while. (don't know if that has anything to do with it.) But it is still doing it now. we were told to check for any loose connections on the Map sensor have done that to no avail. Other things we have done is replaced fanbelts and put a V8 radiator in it (as we tow with it) Any suggestions on what else we can check. Took it to courtesy ford and they said that the power steering sensor was fine so its not that either. cheers guys |

yeah mate it is your TPS. you can check it with a multimeter.
Since you got an EA falcon it might be a good investment to buy a gregory's manual. Tells you how to test all your sensors, ecu fault codes etc......... cheers........ |

The one on an EF is ont he front of the engine right? With two wires going into it? How the hell do you get the thing off?

TPS is attached to the throttle body. Undo air cleaner and remove vacuum line, the udo 2 screws and withdraw switch

Checking it will only show open circuit if it is realy stuffed.
It is more likely to be intermittent. Before you take it off give it a bit of a rap with the back of a screwdriver if this fixes it up for a little while then it's a safe bet it is knackered. Get a new one. They are costly little buggers. Basically they are only just a potentiometer. When you put it in you have to catch the tag on the throttle with the lever in the sensor thingy. Adjust as described in the workshop manual or just try rotating it a bit this way and that with the engine idling. Sometimes it is necessary to file out the holes to allow more adjustment to get it set up properly. Tighten up and you're done.
