Hi all,

This is what i'm going to be doing over the next year or so. I plan to get hold of a wreck of an xg or even xh 4.0l, preferably with a t5 behind it, and fit it into my xf sedan. After this i'm goin to supercharge it, not a hairdryer but a full intake manifold mounted design with a shaker.

I have certain issues that i need to think about before i start wastingmy money. Sure the engine will fit in fine and work a treat under normal driving conditions, and the T5 is a fairly tough box. But how will the engive fair, i would need a high compression head gasket, a cam to get the most out of it, about a grand for material and manufaturing of a new intake manifold adapter, between the blower and the head, couple of inline fuel pumps and lines to match.

Also i'm thinking that the shaker will be a little off center, what should should i do with this, leave it off center, or have a airbox setup ontop of the engine that makes it central?? Any ideas, hints or advice would be greatly appreciated.

the stock compression will be ok for any sane amount of power.

The ECU will have a fit, it can be resolved with a piggyback chip/aftermarket engine management.

The stock XG fuelpump will be OK, as is the lines etc.

Mount the shaker central, and run a pipe from it to the airbox.

You wont get out of a forced induction setup for under $3g, plus insurance and engineers certs,

Cheers, 3g's i expected more. As for sane amount of power, how do you mean, i was fishing for 280-300 rwhp. I haven't seen many people supercharge falcon 6's so i have no figures to work off.

I want an xf, and i want quick acceleration, i'm doing the mechanical before i do the interior exterior.

Anymore information would be appreciated.

The 4 litre engine needs a bit of work to fit into and XF. it doesn't quite just bolt up. You will need the XG engine mounts, the radiator, the radiator mounts, you will need the XG swaybar, which should clear the sump, after that, the wiring will need to be swapped over also, having a manual simplifies things a little.

The whole of the under bonnet will need to be ripped out, and pretty much replaced with XG parts. You can always get an EBII/ED wreck, with a T5, easier to find, and cheaper. From there get an XG swaybar, engine mounts, and radiator mounts, the EBII/ED radiator should bolt up.

This wednesday, there will be an XH with a T5, and a damaged front, and an XHII with a T5 at the auctions. If you're interested. I don't know waht time perioud you are looking for.

Also for the T5 been a tough box, they aren't that tought really, the auto would hold out more, with some simple mods. But this all depends on how much power you are seeking, and realistically wanting to achieve.

The fuel system can't just be upgraded with inline fuel pumps, if you are seriously pushing power, you will need bigger injectors, new fuel reg, bigger fuel pump, and some other bits and pieces. All of this will require an aftermarket ECU.

This would be a damn nice project, make sure to keep us updated 8-)

Cheers

yeh, as justfordima said, getting the MPFI 4.0lt motor in will be enough fun and excitement for you to start with, hints on that - use an EB series 1 ECU and loom (no smartlock).

$3g will get a secondhand CAPA setup, (maybe - if you could find one)

cost will vary wildly depending on what you do but the most trouble with forced induction on the MPFI motor seems to come with the ECU, so maybe an aftermarket setup is in order (insert $$$$ here).

i think the stock fuelpump and lines will be good for what power your shooting at, injectors wont be though (and to run injectors of any significance youll need aftermarket management).

EB series I is one way.... not sure if they had the 4 Litre engines though... you can get EBII's pre smart lock... thats what I have.. completely forgot about that.. but it will definately cut alot of hassles out if you don't have smart lock.

What has been said about aftermarket ECU is true... and that is alot of money, and alot of time..but afterwards very rewarding, from what I hear.

I think you are best concentrating on just running N/A for a bit, get it all running perfect, and then start with the Forced Induction. Just shave the head, get an AU head gasket, and run some higher compression, and when the time comes for forced induction, buy a new head from the wreckers (I got quoted $80), and then customize that to your own spec.

If you stay N/A, it will make life alot simpler... Im not sure on this point, but I know the XF's had mechanical fuel pumps, you might need an EFI fuel tank, and stick an XG fuel pump into it? not certain but.

Me and my mate (MitchG911) have been contemplating buying a parts mobil, and transferring engine and gearbox into his XF, so Ive looked into it a bit.

Cheers

IIRC the high pressure pumps in XF's were a "drop in" job that went in with the fuel level sender

Yeah my xf is the carby version, so when i have to put in a fuel pump, i will have to modify the boot so i can get a fuel pump/sender unit it the tank. I am working on it, sounds like i will be going straight for an aftermarket ecu, although i do work for a ford dealer so i should be able to get he auto electritians to help us out with the smart lock so i might run a standard ecu with smart lock installed. I don't know yet but i think an XH engine would be the go, arn't they around 175kws standard or something???

the XH 6 cylinder engines werent anywhere near 175kw (not even in the XR6's, 164kw there)

the fuel pump/sender unit is a straight drop in fit apart from the wiring and fuel lines, just pull your boot carpet up, remove the round plate thats held down by 8-10 screws, unplug the wires and undo the hoses, unscrew the locking ring, remove the old sender, drop the new one in and tighten the locking ring, plug the sender wires in, as well as the pump feed wires, fit the new fuel hose, and away you go

personally, i'd look at using the EFI's in-tank pump to feed a surge tank, and have a new high pressure pump for the EFI system

Well i know for sure, because i have replaced my fuel sender, I have a carby XF. Its completelt different than the efi xf's.

Okey cheers, wasn't sure about the xh's and their ratings. Well doesn't look like i will be doing a supercharger. Looks like i'm going for a turbo setup.

Thanks for the info, greatly appreciated. Still doing the I6 Conversion but will be addin a turbo, turns out that it will be cheaper and easier to fit.

Also will give me cruising economy, not that a supercharge won't.

Yeah she has been in for a while now... the Old 4.0l she is running sweet, although i'm having second thoughts about the use of the 3.9L conputer on the 4.0l motor. I managed to find a 3.9L MPFI manual computer, these are pretty rare, the mofo chews tyres, i'm thinking i will need a diff ratio change, i have 2.92, prolly go for 3.45's n ls at the same time. I'm going to look in a smartlock cheat, i think i have nutted it out, going to try this weekend, i'm gettin around 370km's a tank. far cry from 550. but then again i overtake road train after road train. I built it to drive it hard.

I'm thinking after all i will go for a high compression setup and bolt on a small turbo when i feel like it. Probably go through head gasket after head gasket but who cares right.... fun. I work for a ford dealership so, cheap parts....

Anyway if anyone knows about a smartlock cheat help a ford mods brother out, i could realy use it.

I'm building a AU motor out of the car to go in, i'm hoping to go for a stage 3 alted performance cam, they havn't got back to me yet about my standard ecu queries..... if they don't soon, i'm guessing crow is the next option, prolly cheaper 2.

Okey ta ta

Okey sweet sweet, wouldn't it idle like a pig, what about fuel mappings and stuff, that wouldn't be right, would run lean and rich all over the place......

My stage 3 on stock ECU is fine (more than fine really :-D hehe)...

If you want more, ECU side of things, keep your eyes peeled.

Cheers
