Gday,
im ripping me head off to replace the gasket. my mate thats ment to be helping me and his other mate came ova yesterday arvo to help remove the head. in the process this bolt here 
(bolt next to the chain) got rounded. 
yeh pretty p****d. now im stuck. they got up and left never to be herd from again. my mate said get a easy out set which i now have but dont know how to use it. it says to drill in to the bolt and screw it in but theres not enough room there to get a drill in to drill it straight. does anyone have any suggestions? or ways to get around this? thanks

1.TRY useing vice grips .2 try useing cold chisal and tap around the bolt gently .3if all fails try welding a nut on the end and put a spanner on it .if u have a oxy gently heat up the thead .

give the head of the bolt a few sharp hits with hammer then use vise grips undo it.

If there are any of the flats left on the head of the bolt you could try knocking on the appropriate sized "Metrinch" style socket which works on the flats of the bolt not the corners.
It helped me several years ago on an EA thermostat housing bolt and the head of the bolt was almost unrecognisable. Hope you succeed. |

finally got it off with vice grips on the actual long part, not the bolt end. Make it really tight and it comews off with great ease ps: dont use k-mart vice grips.

f**k hell i hate this bolt.
"finally got it off with vice grips on the actual long part, not the bolt end. Make it really tight and it comews off with great ease ps: dont use k-mart vice grips." OMG i went and got a pair of good vice grips put it on as tight as i could and the bolt just squishes and get like eaten buy the vice grips. WTF is with this bolt.

I had trouble with this a week ago. Heads still in pieces. I could see it starting to round off when using a sidchrome ring spanner, but stopped before i did too much damage. Thankfully we have a six sided 10mm socket that i eventually used. Was meant to be putting the head back on right now, but after taking my head in for facing its now missing one dowel.... Damn machine shops! You should see the head but. Looks so good!

got the C*** off. covered it with wd40 hit the head of the bolt with a hammer and socket extension in each direction to loosen it. covered it in wd40 again. put a set of vice grips as tight as they would go on the side thats inside the head. then put a single hex socket on the out side. and turned them with equal power. f**k YEH BICH!!!! lol im a little happy. cheers for the help boys i used most of your ideas in 1 go lol. thanks heaps.

the replacement bolt already has stag on it when you get it from ford, $4 from memory it cost me.
Also, be really careful with the chain guide. It looks strong but it snaps terribly easy as many ppl on this forum including myself know.

oh really thanks for the heads up.
does anyone know how much headbolts r from ford? and whats the go with the au metal gasket? cheers boys.
