ok, this isnt for me - for a mate at work

hes just tried to install a sony head unit into his el falcaon - and stuffed it up.

i said i would look around on here for him re the wires...

looked in techo docos - got everything he needed (had 4 wires which he didnt know what to do with) but it doesnt say which wire is the negative wire for the HU....

everything else, but not that one...

can someone please tell me so i can tell him?

isnt it just the fat black wire? there is only one black wire there from memory. but dun quote me on that.

i did tell him tho, that black wires are almost always the negative... but he didnt beleive me... now he wonders why his cluster dont light up at night!

same thing happened to my mates VN, it had alot of dodgy wiring done before hand when i installed the headunit it worked fine just had no cluster lights or interior lights at all, i got a spare piece of wire and joined the red wire and the yellow wire and it worked fine, but it was a bit out of my league so we just took it to a sparky he cleaned all the wires up and installed it spot on for $50

If its just the negative wire for the power it can be taken from any part of the chassis or clean steel section of the dash only if that section is grounded to the chassis. Otherwise its the only black wire in the harness. A simple test with some multi meters on ohms x 1 will find you a ground.
