My 2.92 LSD has had it and rather than buy one second hand and have the same potential problem I would like to know whats involved in rebuilding the diff myself.

1.Removing the diff should be fine but are any special tools required in the rebuild process?

2.Also how much would the parts cost for the rebuild?

3.What is the normal price for a diff rebuild from a workshop?

Cheers

Pulling it out... The only special tool is a 15mm spanner (i think) you know the one you didn't get in the packet)

Rough price on a rebuild is $450 + parts

I've always rebuilt my own and when I say rebuilt..... I mean bearings and preload for the LSD,

when it comes to shims and backlash setup... i have NFI,
all I know is when I've done my previous diffs I've reinstalled everything the way it was... I've come across once where I had to give it more backlash as there was none...(swaped shims with another couple of diffs and calculated the sizes) and never had any problems at all..

If it were a Salisbury from a WB or sumfin I'd say.. pull it apart put a few bolts 'inside' the preload springs, lap the cones and slap it back together and away she goes.

But for the BTR, I'd pay someone if it were my "good car"

2 side carrier bearings, front and rear pinion bearings, pinion seal, collapsible spacer. To rebuild the center you need thrust washers(2 for a 2pinion diff or 4 for a 4pinion) springs and roll pins. When it is apart it may also need new cones and shims to get the preload right .
