to my understanding the lock both rear wheels off the line but allow one to spin faster than the other going around corners.
from what i have read they are the best option for the E series falcon as the allow the less stress but most traction.

Thats a locker
A mini-spool joins the axel - so both wheels ALWAYS turn at the same speed. Good for race cars, no good for road cars All explined in the sticky at the top of the forum - http://www.fordmods.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=59

so wat are they like in a straight line? does it lock straight away? when pulling a line lock in the XR it will leave 1 tyre mark is that because the LSD has to wind up and lock?

a minispool is always locked. It is the same as welding your axels together.
LSD's dont need to wind up. Sounds like yours is stuffed
