My car is a EL auto sedan and done 100,758km on the odometer.
In the last week i have lost about a cup of water(300ml) from the overflow tank and i can seen a coolant stain coming from underneath the No2. Cyclinder exhaust side and it's above the welsch plug. The oil is fine, power is fine, cold start up's are fine, engine temp is fine, and i have noticed it only weaps coolant after the engine is allowed to cool down over night. Will this require replacing immediately or could it blow out one day leaving me stranded. Would there be any benefit of running some silicone along the area were it is weeping. Also yesterday i drove 400km up to my gf parents house and i haven't lost any coolant, i put my hand up under the extractor pipe I and could feel some coolant on my finger but that was it. Must be a really small leak. Cheers........ |

i would do the head a.s.a.p befor it gets into your oil . and the bores fill up with water .it might be a small leak now but it will only get pricey if you leave it to long

I'm in the same situation. My EF Fairmont has a slight oil leak from the head gasket (no water though). I had it replaced about 15 months ago, so it has p****d me off that its happened again.
I've been driving around reluctantly, but I'm considering getting it rebuilt this time with a larger cam. That'll fix it! |

It got fixed on monday, all up cost me $40.
Took to my DADS mate who is a retired A grade mechanic with a small workshop out in his backyard. 1) Firstly did a compression test, all good. 2) Re-tourqed all my Head bolts, 2 on exhaust side weren't even 40nm to start with. That's were the small leak was. 3) Installed a 82 degree thermostat, new header tank cap and new coolant. 4) Pressure tested 5) Have a couple of Beers and talked about fords.. Been 4 days now and done about 600km, and no leaks. I am one happy camper......... |

not the case look after your cooling system and it shouldnt happen. my fokes DF is going onto 230K without any problems, and i knew of a EA that done almost 400K without even removing the tappet cover.
