Gday

Im just about to change my stock intake over to a Edelbrock Preformer. What is involved and what should I look out for. Iv got the gasket kit, black sealer, torque wrench.

What is the go with coolant? Should I drain some off so there isnt any sitting in the manifold or wont there be any in there to worry about?

Thanks.

Its pretty straight forward. Just unbolt your stock manifold, remove old gaskets and goo, make sure you clean all the old gasket crap off good, dont leave anything there. Then install your new gaskets , drop on the manifold and torque wrench it to specs. There wont be any coolant there. Easy!
By the way what did your Edelbrock manifold set you back?

$650 with a freshly rebuilt 750holley vac sec bolted to it....I think the carb is missing an external spring but that no big problem. I didnt think it was a bad deal.

Do yourself a favour and don't use the cork ends on the new manifold, a nice bead of silicone is the best for that. Once you tension it down just clean the ends up of the excess silicone.

The cork are ok on stock manifolds (I always silicone them), but i have found the after market ones to sit lower and they push the cork out as you tighten them down, leaving you with a nice leak.

Yup just like paul said piss off the cork ends. just make sure u dump a clean cloth in there to stop muck getting down there, its not the end of the world if something does but its always a good idea. and make sure you goop both the head faces and the gasket(both sides) and the intake face and let it get tacky before you put it on for a better seal, and if you can try to let it sit for an hour or so before you give it a kick in the guts.
