hi
I just put in ed xr6 diff into my ea took it for test drive to make sure everything is ok.. BUT when you do a hard launch and hard change to second the tailshaft flange hits the floor.. i have checked the bushes and they are ok.. WHY ????????????? ive noticed that the diff has two sets of holes for the upper arms.. the arms are bolted in the lower holes, would this make a difference??? note: the ford workshop manual states that the arm should be in the lower holes on xr8 sprint only... also i have used a alloy tailshaft from ef/el would it make any difference to performance or strength ????? can anyone tell me why some tailshafts have a balancer/dampner on the front of the shaft?? any help would be good.... |

Yes it makes a difference.
What upper control arms did you use? The XR ones or the standard ones?

HI
I used the xr ones but they are bolted into the lower holes on the mounting point.. i was thinking about bolting them into the top holes or using the ea ones and see what happens... the car also axle hops alot when it looses traction... |

hi
well after changing the bolt position its worse.. ive measured the diff arms and the ea arms are the same length as the edxr ones.. the only difference is the alloy tailshaft is 8mm larger in diamater than the steel ea one... the car has king spring lows so i wouldnt say it was to low!! any ideas on how i can overcome this problem |

No idea. I have mine on the lower bolt holes with XR control arms, which from memory had a scallop in them to clear the diff on the lower holes, whereas the standard didn't, and haven't had my tailshaft whacking the floorplan.
I didn't use an XR shaft though. Mine has a bumpstop above the diff though, but even so, I've never hit it. Although I do have an auto... I'm out of ideas, sorry mate!

hi
a bit of a update i fitted nolathane bushes to the lower trailing arms and its so much better .. it only rubs on the floor when i got pasengers in the rear... but after reading the thread about the tailshaft breaking at high speed i noticed a comment about xr8 alloy tail shaft being 3 1/4" diamater i measured a couple of tailshafts to find that my tailshaft is 3 1/4" which is about 10 mm larger in diamater . thats why its closer to the floor than before.. |
