Anyone got any secrets on how to separate balljoints from their tapers? I'm trying to separate the upper fromt balljoint in the NC and for the life of me cant get it... got the bottom one by a bit of tapping?

some times heat from a oxy torch can be your friend but only if practical.

use a lump hammer and repeatedly hit the knuckle part around the taper. put the nut back on loosely first just incase you miss and damage the thread and can't split the joint.

pickle forks are best for mangling ball joint boots.

Bert is right. Hit the side of the part that the pin goes into. leave the nut a few threds on and apply pressure (with a long bar) downwards while hitting with a club hammer.

people need to be careful with the advise they give. Never heat steering or suspension parts with an oxy!!!!!!! rubber mallet or club hammer is they to go. A bit of wd40 left to soak may also help.

seperating the upper ball joint is rather easy. the best way is to wedge a crowbar between the steering knuckle thingy and the the bracket thing which the joint bolts into. its hard to explain but you just need to use leverage. It sounds difficult but its actually rather easy. Crowbar is definetly the way to go! I just did it to my EB and using a crowbar it was a piece of piss. Ball joint forks are useless unless you want to be hitting it all day and dont mind replacing the rubber boot and possibly damaging the joint. if you need any extra clarification or help - post a pic of the joint area and i should be able to tell u where to shove the crowbar.

ALSO: if you are actually going to replace the joints they need to be pressed in and out. best to take the steering knuckle to pedders and have them do it.

its actually amazing how many falcons have stuffed lower balljoints. i reckon most ppl on here with an EF or earlier are likely to have ripped lower ball joint boots (which in turn - stuffs the joint).

when i did ball joints on my ef's, i went to press it out when i did them the first time, and my press wouldn't do it.
i ended up taking it to fulcrum and they did it for me for 70 bucks (and pressed my new ones in for me too).
the second time i rang fulcrum up and it turns out they do an exchange stub axle setup for $145.
