Hi there.
I have an EL XR8 ex NSW police force car and here is the problem. The interior light won't work  . It only works if the switch is switched on but does not work when the doors are opened or the remote keypad unlocks the doors. I have met another person who also has an EL ex police model and his has the same problem. It has been to the auto electricians twice and all he did was replace the body control module which did not fix the problem. Any help would be appreciated.
Cheers
Chris.

Yeah thats how the cops want them to work.

Try putting a standard light switch in it.

not really.... based on the idea of many corny cop shows, if they're doing a stakeout or something of that sort, and wanna get out of the car silently and swiftly, the last thing they want is an interior light flicking on and illuminating the whole car ;)

I was going to say, are the switches still in the door near the hinge, but that wouldnt explain why they dont come on when unlocking the car...hmmm...strange one...wonder how they do it?

I had this problem on mine - also ex cop.

Traced the circuit to the drivers skirting board, where they had cut the wire that goes to the interior light. They also drilled a hole in the drivers pillar and stuck a switch in there. I thought it was a broken seat buckle hook or something, so I didn't think much of it! :)

Probably not. Just the 3 screws holding that skirting board on
