Help required. My EA idles fine and seems to run OK, but the temp gauge never goes out of the first colour bit. I've changed the senser in the thermo housing, with no change at all. I've changed the oxy senser as well. BUT it still seems to run too rich, black stuff out of the exhaust all over the driveway. I get about 300k to a tank full. Not wanting to add to the petrol profits of oil companies. Someone have any ideas.
No Leaks in fuel system either.

well 300 out of a cfi is about normal, the black out of the exhaust is normal on first start up,you have to remember that left over s**t accumulates in the cylinders, you get condensation when the engine cools down after runing and a by product of the combustion preccess is water.

put it all together and you get black s**t out the exhaust,,unles it's doing it all the time ie while cruiseng theres not much you can do.

300k to a 65 litre tank is not normal naughtyfalcon. Neither is black s**t coming out of your exhaust when you start up either. when i was getting 300k to a tank of fuel after rebuilding my old ea, i found a heap of problems with it. one was the timing- distributor was rooted. then the hose on the map sensor had cracks and small holes in it. As Interceptor said, your thermostat could be knackered too. One of my workmates has an ea cfi manual wagon and he gets 600k to a tank, mind you he never services it till it really needs it... thats just nasty lol

MAP sensor hose should connect to a multi-tee on the back of the intake....directly below the MAP sensor.

I tried that, it blows even heaps more black smoke and there is a big sucking sound from an outlet below the carby on the inlet manifold/ If some one could send me a pic on the correct hose setup I will be a happy camper!

First thing you should be looking at is the thermostat. If the car doesn't get hot enough the ECU will run it rich to attempt to warm it up. You need a 92deg thermostat.

Sounds like a massive vacuum leak, plug it and see what happens.
