hey guys, i reckon i've chewed out shims on one of my HLAs (because i have an alted cam i needed them). My question (as above) is, do 3.9 shims fit into a 4.0 engine because i have a spare 3.9 i can flog them from which would make it all very convenient 8-)

depends what 4L it is. there are two type the change over was late in the EB2 production run, the diameters are 14mm and 11mm i think it is.
then you have 3 or 4 different hights in each ranging from 1.8 up to about 2.4

3.9 shims are 1.9mm and the bigger ones you can get are 2.4mm. Mine had 1.9mm in them but it rattled its tits off so i baught a set of 2.4mm and its like new now

i've got a July (pretty sure its July) 92 EB 4L... so they're all the same diameter but just different thicknesses?

they should be the 14mm ones you need. they might be a different thickness. they have the different one so that as things like a head reco are done you can remessure what the shim size should be an use the right one.

my problem is that i crunched up the washer type shims that you get with the RPD/alted cams (at least i think thats what i've done) so all i need is something to make up 1-2mm of shim-age (or whatever the ammount needed for a stg1 is - can anyone remember?)

the 1.8/1.9mm shims have 1 dot ingraved on the top so you can tell what they are without taking the lifter out. 2.4mm have 2 dots and 1.7 have no dots
