Well the car died on me last night, pretty sure its ignition related.
Sitting in traffic and it stalled. Turned it over and it was idling like a 13B bridgeport. Not a great feeling with a 5L... Had been running fine - until it got up to a certain temperature.... Lights went green and i "bucked" my way along the road as the engine fired probably twice every second. Complete with clouds of black smoke - i figure a result of lots of fuel being injected with little spark activity. Bascially parked it, went and got something to eat, tried again about 2 hours later and managed to limp it home - it didnt like it tho lol. So, who's had problems with these engines at around 190,000km?? I'm thinking coil or TFI module but interested to hear thoughts.... Im pretty sure this wasnt "limp home mode" - as from what i understand, EEC can actually maintain and idle and drive smoothly when it goes into limited operations strategy... this thing just wasnt firing....

Go for the coil, atleast they're easy to get to on the 5L compared to the 4L.
Maybe try gettin one of those screamin demon coils from BPT, could help your spark underboost, even if iti doesnt fix the probelm at hand. Win/win!

Some interesting reading from the US. Apparantley TFI failure extremely common... the symptoms sound familiar to what im experiencing...
But more to the point - there was a massive class action against ford... (the number of cars sold there with TFI mounted to the dizzy would be in the millions - wouldnt be far off here either with EA-ED and EL I6 using TFI along with EB-EL V8) people who paid to have the TFI module replaced were reimbursed... apparently a lot of accidents as a result of car stalling from TFI failure... lol, i could easily have seen that happening last night. Would appear being mounted to the dizzy sees them get a bit hot under the collar... later designs in the US saw a remote TFI module moved to a heat sink near the front of the vehicle...

I'll chime in with the TFI module going bung...
Mine died about 3yrs ago around the 150k mark.. Stupid place to put electronic circuitry.

I've got a complete dizzy (with TFI) and a coil in the shed if you want to borrow them to find what is wrong with yours. Do the old parts replacement trick until it works. Also have a spare set of leads (no new tho).
