with the death of my auto rapidly approaching (dropped it onto D from redline today, mostly coz it was giving me the s**t) i think its time to think about another box.

Since i got it the trans has been a little rough and ive always tgought, well if it goes pop then its a good excuse to get a manual. This time has come and with tax returns coming up soon my plan for cam/headers will have to sit on the sidelines for a while to pay for another box.

Now, ive been contemplating just gettin walliston wreckers to chuck in an EL Auto *fitted warranty* but im thinkin that i really am over driving an auto (having been hackin round in manuals since i was about 6), so i figured a Manual conversion would be the way to go. SO ......

Ive read the conversion guide ion the modifications section but still have a few more questions...

How much do Manual Boxes Cost?
Falcons have a Man-powered clutch not a Hydraulic one correct?
Will i need to change ECU?
Has anyone done it and how much of a b**ch is it?
Can i use a commodore T5 (i assume they would be more common) and change bellhousing?

and Who wants to do the pedal box for me:D?

I'll try and answer some questions..
I paid $880 for a Full EA manual conversion, that had a reco'd (not second hand) box. But the second hand conversion normally goes for about a grand.

Falcs use a Cable clutch. You will most prolly need to clear out the clutch cable hole. When I done my conversion, I had noticed that the clutch cable hole had been used for a couple of things (not installed by me). In mine, they had run the alarm siren wiring and the 8ga cable for the smaller amp.

You can use resistors, so that you wont need a manual ECU, but you would be better off with a manual ECU.

The hardest part of doing the Auto to manual conversion is changing the pedal box, the WHOLE dash needs to come out about 1 foot to access the pedal box.

Hope this helps
Chris

yeah i was thinkin anywhere between 1000 - 1300 for the conversion, a doco with pics would be sweet.

how often will i come across a second hand manual thats f**k, are they a fairly solid box or are there alot of common faults?

from the examples i have seen, they are far better than the automatics longeivety wise, the ea wagon i got mine out of was an 88 model series 1 with bout 340,000 kays in it and still drove sweet. nice tight selector etc.
