HI GUYS, I OWN A EF XR6 I HAVE RECENTLY TURBOCHARGED MY MOTOR AND I AM HAVING PROBLEMS WITH MY MOTOR BLOWING OIL OUT THE DIPSTICK. I HAVE JUST FINISHED INSTALLING A CATCH CAN TO THE CAR IT HAS HELPED A BIT BUT WHEN I GIVE MY CAR A GUT FULL IT STILL BLOWS OIL OUT THE DIPSTICK. I HAVE HEARD THAT YOU NEED A THREE HOSE SETUP WITH YOUR CATCH CAN IF YOUR MOTOR IS TURBOCHARGED I ONLY HAVE A TWO HOSE ONE IF THIS IS THE CASE WHERE DO YOU INSTALL THE THIRD HOSE. ANY HELP WOULD BE GREAT [/b]

are you sure its not just blow by? your rings may be worn and with the extra boost your pumping in the air/fuel mix being compressed in the engine is blowing b the piston. Thats what it sounds like to me, a catch can doesnt stop oil blowing out the dipstick

uhhmmm...
blowing out the dipstick? this means its pressurizing the crank case yeah? It's to do with the breather hoses i believe.. ie rather than the crank case/engine seeing vacuum and the engine sucking the fumes in as part of the emissions BS.. its boosting the crankcase/engine and forcing the oil out. So yeah, breather hoses?? |

Rear breather hose still plumbed to manifold?

u need 2 hoses going into a sealed catch can and 1 going from the catch can into the intake pipe before the turbo. therefor the vacume inbetween the air fillter and the turbo will make a vacume in the catchcan therefor making vacume in the crank case. this helped heaps with my turbo el wit the standard motor.

catch cans are really for cars with forged pistons as they expand when heated, but when forgies are cold, a little pressure passes them.
i'm guessing you just bolted on a turbo to your car without rebuilding the bottom end (i.e. lower comp pitsons etc?). if this is the case, and oil is pissing out your dipstick, you have too much crank case pressure normally caused by broken rings/ringland have you done a compression test on it? |

Wow - that would be a fair bit of blowby to be pressurising the crankcase. Even if it were escaping past the rings, the PCV system should be capable of getting rid of this pressure...
Unless you run a LOT of boost and have a small PCV breather hose??? Can you explain exactly how you've got the PCV/catch can setup. Fritzz is on the money - the system needs to be able to vent to the inlet plumbing PRE turbo...

lol use lots of heat rap and acl heat sheilding. watch out u dont melt the brake booster, thats the first thing u need to protect (they are plastic).

I found that sometimes under boost the PCV valve was letting boost into the crankcase.....so i gutted the PCV valve and run it to the catch can too.
