it does take a lot of effort. put some goggles on and just sit under it. use pliers if necessary. mine came off after 5 minutes off yanking. but yeah might take an effort. the hose connected to the back of the filter was the easiest for me. so i removed that and pull the filter out and just yanked it with my hands......thats when the petrol flew in my eye =( painful.

would pouring boiling water over it soften them so you can pull them off?

colin55 it is a nice idea......but hot water might just do more then soften up the fuel line. it could warm up the petrol meaning it is easier to go off......not that easily but easier. keep fuel away from any kind of heat imo.
