Hi there newbie! you will also need the efi head because the injectors actuallysit in the side of the inlet port . You will also need an efi pump and surge tank(or an efi fuel tank),high pressure fuel lines, efi airbox(with built in airflow meter).Much easier to source a whole efi car or "conversion kit".

where did you hear they "actually sit in the side of the inlet port"?
  8-)

This would be the Bosch mechanical system? as used on the VK as well?

Nar XE used Bosch LE-jetronic and XF used EEC-IV (A9L modified mustang I think)
I have manualy ground a XD head for the injecters into the intake port before. they do have about 2mm (from mem) of the side end of the injector pintle cap the head injector inset

I doubt they run an A9L computer, as they use MAFs for one, and these run a AFM, and the EEC-IV they do run, is not great to say the least.. There's numerous stories about it been smart lol.

If anything for the ECU, I would go with an EBII EEC-IV, and use a map sensor, same wiring loom(a bit of modification), and a much better system.

Or go the whole mile and get an aftermarket system.... but in your case it seems like your not after that.

Cheers

I agree that most XE/XF heads have the relief cut out for injectors, I also believe that the pindle cap on the injector just protrudes past the intake requiring the heads to have the reliefs, plus the fact it would affect the spray pattern.
I also agree the EFI heads have a different combustion chamber, just check the compression ratio specs for both lead and unleaded EFI engines against carby 4.1.

The biggest agreement for me would be to piss off the factory injection system, there isn't anything wrong with the intake, head or throttle body etc but the system works off crank case vacuum and uses a vane airflow meter, both of these are far from reliable. Either try adapting a later EEC-IV etc or aftermarket system, there would be far less problems in the future.
