Hi guys,

I'm going to be changing instrument clusters & fitting a trip computer to my 5-spd Manual EL XR6.

To do this, I'm obviously going to have to disconnect the battery, and the seller of this car has warned me that it runs like a dog & wants to stall after the battery has been disconnected!

The motor has been re-built with a JMM Dev 5 upgrade, hence why it might be a little grumpy after the battery has been disconnected.

The Dev 5 kit runs off a stock ECU.

Is the procedure for resetting the ECU in a manual the same as for Auto, as per the doccos on this site?

Should following the ECU reset procedure after reconnecting the battery get the ECU settled down quickly enough?

Any other suggestions would be great!

Cheers.

You dont really need to disconnect the battery to do those things, but if you do the ecu will relearn within a few 100k's of normal driving.

I never really looked into those mods, but if you're playing with wires (wiring things, joining and so forth) its best to disconnect the battery (to avoid sparks).

Otherwise if it was me, Id leave it on.

If the battery must be disconnect (as you see fit), then as stockstandard said the ECU will relearn itself fairly quickly.

And the reset procedure was recommended by ford, so Id adhere to that. (just improvise for the manual bit)

Cheers

on wednesday i reset my ecu without even knowing it, i went for a drive and when ever i stoped at an intersection, the engine would stall. my EL is factory manual without any engine mods, after about 40km of driving everything is back to normal.
