If a megasquirt is fitted to a ZL Fairlane what sort of power and torque improvements would there be? Is there a better system to fit for a few hundred dollars?

for the money, IMO its the best option
no real immediate power gains to be had, but it gives you a lot bigger scope at modifications

You get a few kw by running a more aggresive tune, but not all that much until you start seriously modifying the engine.
There is not real competition in price as long as it works. Ive seen a fair number now end up as paper wieghts, so unless you know what your doing best to get a premade and tested one.

G'day
I have one running my xf. I still have a very average tune, until my 02 sensor returns i cant do much about it. Ive found it to have more torque than other xf efi's that i have drivin. In saying that ive never driven another xf that has been manual, i have an ed xr6 t5. Unless you know what your doing and are fully committed to doing the conversion i wouldn't waste your money. I did it as a step up to an el motor, that being planned atm. Ive learned alot about tuning and how to get it all to work. The real advantage of using this over the standard ecu is that you can do away with all the pollution gear. I got rid of the lot and i would say that it makes a little difference to the drivability of the car. You need to be sure you want to cough up that amount of money and that you are going to stay with it till it works properly. If you need a hand i can help. I'm doing a write up at the moment, so wait and see how much work was involved. Cheers
