ok the humble distributor and all its wonders and moving parts. was tinkering with the idea how to go about gettin rid off these things, not on my car or as an aftermarket gizzmo , but more along the lines off, at factory level as a design improvement.
nowdays with the advancements in electronics and sensors (mainly crank angle sensor ) i think it would be possible to use this type of sensor to drive a circuit in the ecu or main computer in the vehicle. may need to add some other high voltage switch gear(elctronic) or so forth or sum heat sinks but some tech guys should be able to figure this out surely, maybe might need a hall effect device and maybe notches or magnets on crank to pulse each cylinder top dead centre. ok i now the dizzy works just fine , but production costs would be eliminated , also the need to replace the rotor buttons , as there would be no more arcing in the cap , no more torn off bevel drive gears , and so on so what yas rekon is it time to bring the main spark system into the new millenia |

it would be great.........but who is going to fund it when the dizzy is working fine? might not work as well as an electronically controlled spark.
phong =P~

whats wrong with coilpack ignition like a lot of cars have? that does away with the distributor!

well teh BA i6 use coil on plug and so does teh Gen 3 iirc
the more than likely use a crank angle combined with a cam angle sensor to tell when to fire the plug coil works the same way as any other coil

EFs are another good example, using wasted spark. 3 coils, which get fired according to the ECU, which picks up engine speed off the crank (using a Crank Angle Sensor), and also using a cam position sensor (AKA sequencer)..
I still don't see what is so bad about dizzys, they're awesome. Cheers
