hey, I've got an XF with drum brakes, and a disc LSD out of another XF. I was just wondering what is involved with this swap? do they run the same master cylinder and brake booster? what about brake lines? handbrake cable? basically what am I gonna need to change?

Any advice would be appreciated

Cheers, Gab

from various sources (brake shops, parts catalogues, etc) the different master cylinders for disc brake setups continued till ford phased out rear drums

Hey there,

I have done this conversion to my xf.

Are you going to swap the whole diff over with the brakes on it?.

If so it will make the job so much easier. If you are going this road you would just install the diff with discs and all the gear on it into your car.

Here is what i had to do but i wanted to keep the diff that was in my car.

I changed the brake booster as i heard that the brake bias between the discs and drums is different. I also changed the handbrake cable as the cable for the discs is longer and has hooks on the ends. I changed the axles and bearings so that i could bolt the discs to them. I changed the brake lines that go over the diff. Oh and i also had to weld the brackets for the handbrake cable to my diff.

Of course if you are swaping diffs you will not have to do all of these steps.

Hope that helps a little.

Wrong, the disc brake master cylinder uses a different proportion valve, check any Ford part number as Interceptor said.

You can use the same master cylinder but you have to rekit it with disc brake rebuild kit, as the proportion valve is internal, pre XC had a separate proportion valve when disc brakes were fitted, pretty sure you would need to replace the master cylinder as well.
