ah just a shot in the dark but could it be the auto cutoff for starting when in drive

Funnily enough it's the Economy Indicator light.

My XH is a factory manual and I get this code all the time . . . .

Did you short out the two pins that the inhibitor switch control (starter relay) :idea:

Yep. And that code shouldn't stop your car from starting, as mine is missing the bulb as well (flogged it to replace another bulb)
