Could someone tell me whether the gear changes in e series autos are electronic or hydraulic. Presuming the use of drive gear

All the 4 speed autos are electronic.

Are Electronic shifts managed by the tcm or another component

On the 6 cyliner falcons from EB series II and above, and V8's from AU onwards are handled by the engine ECU,
All other V8's and EA's have a seperate trasnsmission control module. |

What I am trying to do is manualize the downshift to a button/switch.
So if its the TCM for v8, do you know whether it is a simple wire in wire out or is it a little more involved. |

So effectively, you want to press a button and have the transmission go down a gear or two?
There are a few ways you can do it, but doing it the easiest way will make the trans change into a gear depending on road speed. ie if your going slow enough in 3rd, and press your button, it can go back into 1st which may not be what your looking for (it will probably send you through the windscreen, let alone put unnessesary forces on the drivetrain) You'd probably be better off just using the T-bar, because even if you did mimic the gear position switch electronically, soon as you release the button, it will go into the highest gear for the current road speed (ie back to 3rd or 4th) |

Yep thats exactly what I want. I guess you know how to achieve this maybe you could enklighten me a little! |

Grab T-Bar and Pull to 1st position. If the shift is possible without sending the engine through the limiter it will do it.
If you want to send the engine through the limiter you need more brains.

Quote "momentary button across a couple of the TCM pins which will simulate the accelerator pedal being flat to the floor.
This will simulate 100% engine load at the current road speed thererfore the TCM will kick down however many gears possible to keep the engine within safe limits. It will still automatically change up through the gears at just before redline as it would if you really did have your foot planted. The TCM is pre programmed with minimum (kickdown) and maximum speeds per gear and also the max rpm allowable, therefore depening on your current road speed, it will select the lowest gear possible within these limits." Thanx coupe66 If any of you fellas know the speed limits per gear, and connector pinouts of the tcm, please pm me the information. Thanx to all |
