A guys how r we all?

I recently installed a T5 into my EA. Having an absolute ball driving it to say the least but am still a little rough on things like:

* Taking of quickly without wheelspin (even without stalling)
* Fast gearchanges(not bad though)
* Does any1 now best shift RPM

Basically any advice (flat changing or playing with the clutch?) would be appreciated as I wanna go to the drags soon but just need to refine my drive style as this is the only manual i've driven I have only 3 weeks experience. Thanks guys.

practise makes perfect. You will quickly expire that T5 with flat shifting, maybe 3rd to 4th only. Throw a short shifter on it for improve shift times. I shift my EL around 2500rpm normal day to day driving, about 1750 on economy runs and at about 4800 when on it.

hard launches comes with practice. i don't really launch mine hard unless im racing, which ain't that often.
fast shifting also comes with practice.
the best shift rpm depends on how you drive it.
in an ea you'll probably find it's around 5000 rpm when your hard on it.

oh and flat shifing will probably result in grenading the box in the not too distant future.

Ah, the good old T5.

Yeah, practice makes perfect. I find the shift from 2nd to 3rd can sometimes be a gamble, but other than that, she's not too bad.

For me, I upchange at around the 2,500 mark in daily driving and 5,000 ish when going for gold. There's not much point revving her past 5,000. Although if I were taking it to the drags, I would upchange at redline in every gear, as this will ensure a better 0-100 time as redlining will get you to just past 100 in second gear. Depending on diff ratio, of course.

To ensure a quick take off, I generally take revs to 3,500 ish and dump the clutch. This ensures she doesn't bog down and only gives a small chirp at the rears.

How much extra grunt did you notice after having the T5 installed? She would launch a hell of a lot better wouldn't it?

I have a heavy Razo round metal gearknob. I have never missed a gear (ok, i missed 3rd the first time i drove it but never since) but i will admit 2nd to 3rd is a loooong way across the gate

i've never had a problem with the 2nd to 3rd shift in any of my manual coons.
my next mod is to reduce the height of the shifter as it will look nicer and may help slightly with shift times.

yeah ive missed 2nd to third a couple of times.. the trick is to take your time from 2nd to third...

At the drags i rev mine to 4000rpm then slip the clutch but balancing it so it doesnt give out too much wheelspin... it takes a bit of practice to get it right.. If you can flat change all the gears smoothly i will give you credit as i cant! Depending on ur cam is where you want to change gears.
I change mine at 5800 first to second and the rest is irrelevant as i cant rev it out properly over 4800 in the other gears :S
Third to fourth is a safe flat change tho..

Launch technique will be determined on a few factors

(1) Track/tyre grip
(2) Engine torque band
(3) Clutch type/strength
(4) gear ratios/suspension

Ive tried dumping of the clutch, however even as low as 2000rpm it just leaves twin 255mm wide marks down the road. and above 2500 it doesnt move forward, just kinda sits there making large white/grey clouds.

I find best launch is with a quickish slip from about 3500rpm. This is all on unprepaired bitumin. At a track im confident a 4000rpm slip then dump from 3000 will nett better 60's however T5/BW78 reliability isnt their strong suits.

As said above launch/shift techniques are diffrent from car to car, and practice makes perfect.

shift rpm would be dependent on your engine not the box.
drain it and fill it back up with some decent Redline Shockfproof lightweight oil and it should feel nicer!
