Hey Guys.
I am planning my boost setup soon and I am a little concerned about my gearbox. I have heard that the T5 has a weak 5th gear. Is this tru or is the whole thing weak? Any input would be great guys! Cheers |

5th isnt exactly a gear you're gonna be pushing hard.... 1-2-3 are the ones to look at

Yea, well I dont really wanna push 5th. But just reading some threads, ppl are saying that the T5 is weak and cant take to much power.

i've heard of a few guys running some decent power thru em stock...just treat them with respect, use good oil and change it regularly. don't crunch gears and avoid flat changes...

i have a mate who used to workl in the brutes, and he was saying that their ford ute had to have the gear box changed at least once a meeting. But their commo ute was much stronger.
Supposedly they had changing a T5 down to about 6 or 7 minutes!! |

There is another version of the T5 available. Think it is a T5Z but I couldn't break my T5 in my XD and that had a tuff engine in it. I broke the T5 in my xf (cos the clutch s**t itself and I kept ramming it through gears till I broke the shifter! ). Other than that I was under the impression they were a pretty good box.

The T5's aren't really that strong, but i haven't managed to kill mine yet.
Thtas 212rwkw, and 600nm of torque, and it cops a flogging at the drags, etc. |

If you're gonna break a gear in any gearbox it's normally 3rd, or maybe second, depends if you like snapping 2nd to clutch at some traction. |

T5's and superchargers seem to be ok, i've spoken to a few ppl wtih T5's and supercharged falcon's and they're still using the original box.
turbo's on the other hand are different, ppl seem to kill T5's with ease with turbo's. most likely due to the difference in torque curve when you're talking s/c vs t/c in a manual.

No, I am not planning 5th Gear Burnouts. I dont plan on doing burnouts in general!
Yea, chatting to Kilma, he was saying that his T5 is holding up well but like someone said, its probably the torque cruve. Will have to look at getting the Mal Wood T5Z or somthing! Thanks guys! |

Yeah with a turbo setup, it would probably break a lot easier, cause they have a fatter torque curve than the supercharged setup.
I mean most of the power is coming on in the higher rev range, so there's not so much strain on the box. |
