very interested to know guys
wot exaclty does a stall converter do? wot does it do to the overall running of the car/engine? how do they hook up and how easily installed? for example say i bought a 3000rpm converter? wot is it going to do for me? |

Ok to answer your questions think of it like this
The stall does several jobs, the most important is that it acts as a dampener/clutch for the auto. It brings the revs up to a certain point so that the car doesnt stall on take off. It also provides tourque multiplication on take off, this is due to the mass of the stall and centrifical forces. Dont ask me how, but it does. A low stall(-1200rpm) doesnt allow the car to produce much torque on takeoff where as a high stall(2500 and up) brings the engine onto cam earlier hence the harder launch. To hookup/install, the auto needs to come out of the car, so how easy that is depends on how strong you are and what tools you have access. A 3000rpm converter will do a couple of things. 1st it will put you gearbox into limp mode, as the stall is too high and the TCM will think it is buggered. If it did work, you would get flaring and pretty good take off until the actual road speed equalled the road speed that the car should be doing at 3000rpm. You will aslo get increased fuel consumption Hope that helps Brett
