Fellas,
i need to make a new spare key for my ED Fairmont, as i only have one key and want to keep one spare. Do i just need to take it to the key cutter, and have one cut out, and i can use it straight away.....or after i get the key cut, i need to program the key somehow in the car? if so how do i programm it? Reason i ask, i dont want to end up stuffing something, cause of some security feature in the car from a faulty/bad programmed key. Thanks |

Key Cutters should stock a range of different shaped car keys and there is a Ford copy key that they can make a spare with. They are $25 tho so a bit pricey.

i just looked into my log book, and it says that i must provide a key identification number. ive looked everywhere and i can not find that number. do you guys know anything about this? on ebay someone sells blank ford keys and cuts them for you also for $22,but you need to provide a key identification number so it can work in your car...this is what i cant find. thanks |

isn't the key identification number stamped on the key itself? Dunno I don't have smartlock, just thought I remembered seeing an ID number on one of my mates keys.
Cheers

You need to get the code from a small dog tag on your car keys. Was issued with the keys when the car was sold. I have mine at home in a safe place, so if my keys are lost, then no one can copy them correctly.

Depends what model car you have. Ford can issue you your key code if you give them your vin and model number from memory. There is a key cutter in Brisbane that can do any auto key on the market, so I am sure there are others in the various states.

just go to a locksmith you wont need any codes. i didnt for my ef, so im guessing it would be the same for earlier e series.
when i did mine i went to a few key cutting places like mr minit, but they didnt want to know about it. they all said they couldnt cut them properly and then they get stuck in the ignition and they had been getting lots of repair bills. so id definately go to a proper locksmith
