yeah yeah i know its not a ford but i thought a few of you may be interested in what i have been playing with in my garage over the last week and a half.

story is a mate of mine rang me up asking if i could give him a hand and we ended up doing it in my garage as he has no idea at all, lol.

He got the car for the pricely some of $600, thru some rego on it for another $600 then bought the complete engine with turbo and all the bits complete for a steal at $550. add in the few bits and pieces we have had to buy to tidy up the conversion so far and all up he is still under $2000. not bad bang for your buck.

the motor is a g200 2lt single OHC isuzu motor, running a decompression plate and has had the head opened up a bit and the bottom end was freshened up about 5000k's before it came out of the doner car. it is fed by a CD175 stromberg carby and the turbo is a mystery, no marking's on it at all, it is only smallish though as you can see in the photos.

i will update when we have it running properly and get it to WSID and down the quater. it currently runs and idles nice but we need an exhaust and radiator before we can test drive it, cant wait.

cheers Rob.

cheers Martin, the g200 is from the early model rodeo's i think, they are common enough if you look around and bolt straight in too. we have only had to "alter" the inner guard a bit to clear the turbo housing and the lip on the firewal to clear the wastegate. battery relocated to the boot and a facet fuel pump and regulater installed, easiest install/modification i have ever done.

the guy who built the motor and had it running in another gem reckons he got 200hp at the wheels when it was a g180 1800cc, hasnt been run on the dyno with the 2lt bottom end yet, should be interesting, the whole car weighs less then 1050kg so should go alright too.

Lol, been there/done that with the blower in the EF. Nothing a mallet and a rag cant sort out hey?

What were the specs on the fuel system? i.e. size of pump/regulator. I assume the carby came with the motor and was prepped for boost?

yeah the carby came with it so i have no idea if its touched or not, we just have a facet fuel pump which delivers around 7psi and the reg is a no name that drops it back to about 4psi. the spring in the wastegate is apparently a 14psi one, will be interesting to see how the fuel keeps up to it on full boost.

well it runs.... "insert evil laugh here"

so much for the supposed 14psi spring in the wastegate, it easily went to 18psi, maybe its not opening, lol.

i have to say that i didnt have high expectations for this thing considering the rough and ready nature of the install, but bugger me it goes unreal!!! what a surprise to be bagging up 3rd gear after a rough "ear" tune, still havent even put a timing light on it. dunno what the neighbours thought with the 11pm test drive with just a dump pipe off the turbo...

hopefully get the exhaust done tomorrow then try and get it up to crescent to have a run on the dyno to check afr's and see what it can do.

stay tuned.
