Is there a drain plug on the torque converter for an EL auto. The C4 in my old ZJ Fairlane had one and made it so much easier to drain the 5lts of fluid.

I gathered that would be the answer! Its just that when S1 went in the trans and it being in limp mode the fluid got slightly burnt. I drained the auto when i changed the soleniod but didnt do the torque converter, so basically only replaced about 40% of the fluid. Guess ill just have to pay for it to be fully flushed. Some auto specialists have fitted drain plugs to the pans.

No point just draining the pan as there will be about 5ltrs still in the torque converter. You have to drop the pan anyways to change the filter when servicing the trans.

True, I guess its just a easier/cleaner way to get the oil out before removing the pan. Besides a standard service is not a full oil change anyway.

why dont you do it your self. it's pretty easy to do. all you need is 20L drum of 95le fluid a 20l drum pump. some hose the same size as your cooler lines some thing to catch the fluid in. take your cooler lines off the rad and put some hose on each one. run both hoses to a container get someone to start the car noet which one is the return line and attach the pump to it. run the car while pumping in new fluid. once the fluid coming out is clean get your helper to go through the gears to clean out the valve body properly. refit cooler lines check level. done drink beer |

most oil companies have oil recomendations on there website. www.penrite.com.au www.penzoil.com.au www.castrol.com.au etc

You'd need to pump it in pretty quickly to keep up with it ... otherwise the BTR will dry out and die a horrible death.
The actual flushing equipment to do it is not cheap ... only specialised transmission places will have them (as the flush pumps are bloody expensive) ... and you will go through a lot of the transmission fluid as well. Can also use 95LE fluid as well as the Castrol TQ95 ... I use Gulf Western trans fluid as it is the one my mechanic stocks in the large drums.
