I just fitted a simota 3.5in pod and a 95mm aluminium intake pipe to the El, and i will have say it has improved ACCELERATION HEAPS. Got it from online auto's for $100 plus freight and the 3.5in pod filter is a cotton element like the k&n and is fully washable.
Just made up a cheap and easy alloy plate heat shield. works a treat as it stops radiant heat coming from the intake plenium. Cheers LUKEY. Last edited by falcon4litreOHC on Wed Jul 19, 2006 7:05 pm, edited 4 times in total. |

here is a pic, been moved
need to design a heat shield for it. At the moment the 225 width tyres are spinning from off the lights without stalling the auto up, and the car has never been able to do that before. I must have got a good 5-10rwhp gain. cheers.. Last edited by falcon4litreOHC on Tue Jul 04, 2006 7:25 pm, edited 1 time in total. |

I have one installed inside the airbox on my Au. They are a good filter & top value for money. I have one inside the airbox of my EF & it has a heat shield already(probably overkill). The problem with the 3 inch one with the heatshield is the filter is a lot smaller. You might be able to get one for your 3.5 inch filter from simota.

just been to the simota.com.au website, but it looks like they only sell heat shields for 77mm neck pods.

I still cant beleive that would make any improvement if not actually having adverse effects on performance.
There is no direct cod air feed and it would simply be sucking in hot air from the engine. Extend the pipe from the throttle body putting it closer to the corner of the bay, build a sealed heatshield around it and then get a 3" pipe ducted up from the bumper and it might do something. I have seen these setups run back to back with stock intakes on the dyno with turbo cars and made none if not worse performance (if not heatshielded). So i couldnt see it doing much on an n/a engine.

i thought that to but i mucked around with my pod on the old 31 and yeah you would think that cold air and that kind of s**t would effect it well it does.
but the pod has multiple areas of sucktion not just one from a normal box/snokel thing. and thus sucking in for air. well that's my opion and yeah might not be true but hey

would a steel pipe heat up, get hot and warm the air going into the engine?

The air flows that fast through the pipe, im guessing it would only be VERY minimal if anything at all.

if u want true cold air induction, run a 75mm pipe from throttle body pointing forward with pod attached, cut small hole in bonnet and thats it looks different and works great

Sounds a good way to go,what about a couple of pipes under the head light. I also put foam lagg around the radiator hose vik...cheap easy mod...
