I have a question regarding intake pipe length.

For some time, I have been modding an EB V8 (Think EF) airbox. With an XH Snorkel going into the lid and the engine breathing through what was once the snorkel hole.

Its all fitted up 100% and I have noticed a BIG improvement in low down performance, but the thing is, it doesn’t seem to have any more herbs up in the higher revs. (Which I found out while overtaking Rapier  )

Because the new airbox is wider, subsequently the pipe going from the airbox to the throttle body has shortened considerably. So my question is: would a shorter intake pipe reduce up high power?

Intake pipe length will effect your power/torque somewhat...

in a good or bad way? Why? I thought it would improve throttle response becuase the air dosen't have to travel as far :?

Good or bad depends what your after. I.e I think increasing the length is ment to increase low down torque while reducing power up high, were decreasing the length to decrease low down torque and increase power up high, might be the oposite way though... But it's an opposite effect if you know what I mean...

its not that i have lost up top power, its just fells more spirited down low but the same as it did before when in higher revs :?

apart from the lack of gain up high, it works reasonably well with the XH snorkel which i also opened up a bit with a block of wood and a heatgun  .

What did you use as a intake pipe? i used a cut down EA MPI intake tube.

I am also getting a bit better economy... Are you? Also, why didn't you use the XH snorkel?

yeh, i just realised it wasnt in there - Now it is!

i cut down an EA pipe as well, i cut out a section between the folds so that when i pushed it back together it would lock itself in.

I used an ED snorkel cos i had one laying around

that snorkel looks f**k WIDE!

Any ideas on why no gain up high? (Which is what i was actually looking for)

ummm, i think its something to do with the turbulence from the longer pipe,
