Hello,

I own an AU3 Falcon Futura that runs dedicated factory LPG and I would like to put some Pacemakers and a 2.5" system on it, to go with the BF GT snorkel and Unifilter that is already on the car, my question is that I don't want to run a cat on it at all. The EPA (I live in NSW) have told me that if i come from the factory with a Cat, that it must retain a cat, becuase apprently LPG put that same amount, if not more, pollution that ULP/PULP (I tried hard to not laugh at him), and everyone I ask, tells me a different story. So I would liek to know for once and for all, am I able to run a aftermarket exhaust system without a cat convertor on it or not? As I do not feel like paying a $10,000 fine if I get busted. A while ago, I mate of mine had a EA Sedan, coverted to aftermarket LPG (ULP Petrol system was completely removed from the car), and running a 8PSI Turbo and he got it thru rego every year no problems.

ANY information would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance,

Peter - Holocaust

I had the same discussions with RTA and EPA a few years ago with my straight LPG falcon. And yes, the law states that you can not modify the emissions system in any way, even if it wont affect emissions at the end of the day.

I wouldnt get too hung up about a car that can pass rego inspection. The inspections that are carried out are generally pretty poor.. its amazing how many faults slip through the cracks even with some rigid inspectors.

Its not hard to tell if the cat on a petrol car has been cut out just by the smell but with LPG there is no difference. So just cut out the cat and leave the tin cover on if your worried about the cops/inspectors. All the enviromentals say gas has virtually no emmisions but by the sounds the goverment bodies do! Maybe they are thinking of dual fuel cars that have the option to run petrol meaning it must have a cat.

CAT's still make a difference to emmisions on LPG cars.

Correct ... hence why the Factory EGAS Falcons came out with them standard.

If it didn't make a difference Ford would not have put a catalytic converter on the Factory EGAS exhaust systems.
