Not car related, but hoping someone might be able to help. I have just wired up a pair of speakers for my back deck, which are running of the 2 extra channels of my home stereo amp. What I want to do, is put some sort of volume controle outside the house, so I can turn down the outside volume without having to go inside. I realise that I wont be able to increase the volume without touching the amp, but I just want to be able to kill the noise from outside.
Ive tried smiths d**k and gaycar, but the staff there are useless as to what I might need. Anyone got some ideas??

you could put a switch in line with the speaker cable ?
that way you can turn them off without having to go inside.

Tandy used to do a speaker volume control, it is just mounted in the speaker box, so at full volume on the knob, it is as loud as the inside speakers, but you then have the option to turn them down to nothing.

you could just go to d**k and get a variable resistor and join the 2 speakers to the one variable resistor and u can control both of them. unless u want to control them independantly of the other then just get 2 variable resistors.......that should work

It cant just be any variable resistor as the load has to be around 8ohms depending on amp rating. The resistor has to be the wire wound type to handle the higher watts, if its the carbon track type it will just burn out. There is a similar set up for cars if your HU only had 2 channels you could buy an anttenuator to split the 2 into 4 and then fade from front to rear.

yea but it has to be a logarithmic variable resistor not a linear one, otherwise you wont get an even spread of control, believe it or not everything control wise in amps except balance is log scales.
