not that i wanna steal the thread...but on a similair topic, whats the best gearing for a 4spd auto that people have found???It seems that 3.9s seem the best for a modded 5speed manual..so i was just wondering...

I would've thought 3.9's would be way to short for a manual. It'll slow the car down over the quarter for sure. 3.7's would probably be the highest i'd go in a 5 speed.

iv egot 3.9's in my manual xr8 and i love it launches heeps harder and theres more accleleration right through to redline. it makes it easier to drive. i managed a 13.9 with 3.9's and exhaust extractors out of my xr8 in full street trim.

i was thinking the same thing,

3.45 in a manual works out to about 50km/h roughly in first yeah?

so 3.7's would do maybe 40-45km/h?

3.9s? 30-35km/h? Thats a short first gear!

I'm not 100% sure, but i doubt i would get more tahn 50km/h outof first in mine, and thats with 3.23's.
Wild6 is getting some good times with the mods he has, and diff gears of course are a good way to get some better times. In most of the Falcon's i still believe that 3.9's will give you great acceleration in 1st and 2nd, but it would die in the a*** a bit in 3rd and 4th.
So it can slow your quarter mile time, but your 0-100km/h times would be a lot better.

i actually find that 3rd is still my quickest gear (as with most manuals) only thing is thatits a bit shorter than before and it still flies through 4th. it did take a copule of weeks for the computer to learn the 3.9 gears then it felt stronger.
1 of the things i noticed when i first got them was that the stock cam felt inaddequite for the way that the car would accelerate. it was like it showed up that weakness more than when it had the 3.45s. but i still reckon it was a massive improevement for my car
