Well, it seems the dramas keep coming on my XB 250 2V - I've got a leak at the rear of my sump, not real bad but annoying... looks like its the rear seal on the sump, probably leaving about a 2" spot after sitting all night...
So, looks like I'll be pulling the sump off and replacing the gasket each side and the front and rear seals (which come in a kit from Repco for about $19 apparently) - I checked out the workshop manual last nite and it looks pretty straightforward but it ALWAYS looks straightforward in the manual compared to actually doing it...!) So wondering if anyone has any tips, advice as to what seal/gasket set to buy or not to buy, that kinda thing - its not the kind of job I want to do twice.... Also, the manual says the sump comes off without lifting the motor, which is cool but I wouldn't have thought so.... any ideas on this? (Ellery's manual reckons you just need to drop the stabiliser bar and off she comes....) As always, any thoughts much appreciated....

From memory (24 years) the XB sump is quite open and accessible, so Max Ellerys could be right.

Thanks mate - yeah, the real weird thing of it is, that Ellery's XR-XY AND XA - XC manuals both say it comes right off, whereas my Gregory's goes on about lifting the motor 2 inches on blocks in the engine mounts....I still haven't even had a good look yet, not overly motivated I must say since I only replaced the clutch a week ago and just don't feel like crawling underneath it and getting filthy all over again....hmmmm, must be getting old.....

Dam those seals always leak.
there is the normal rope seal , but u can get a u bute rubber seal , and dont scrimp on the sikaflex if u use the rope seal.
