Manifolds and adaptor plates are available for these to suit a 2 or 4 barrel. If the engine's is standard I would suggest a 350 rather than a 465. We have a 465 (4 barrel) on a stinking hot 250 and it appears to be about right. I had a 500 (2 barrel) on pretty much the same engine and it never performed and was really thirsty. Wack a set of extractors and a decent zorst on, quality air filter and maybe thermo fans. And you've done about all you can do without pulling it down! 8-)

Make sure your working with a 250 block aswell instead of starting off with a 200... Do Redline do a tripple carby set up for them? They do them for the Hemi 6's and Holden 6's...

Can't give you hp figures as we never got the XD or Cortina on the dyno. XD was good for flat 15's on the quarter though (and it was running the 500). No idea on the times once we cleaned up an alloy head and wacked it on there (bout 7 or 800 bucks worth of headwork) and dropped the whole shebang in a TE Cortina but it was f**k quick!!!

Well was talking to a mate last night and i think i might open it up but not touch the pistons or crank.. thinkin about a cam not sure which? some head work, also a mate of his is selling a 4 barrel 500 and a manifold to suit might grab that and extractors spliting in to twin pipes.

so is it much of a gain with cam and head work or would it not be worth it and just stick to the bolt on's?

Did X-flows come in 3.3 litre (200) and 4.1L (250)? I'm sure it's safe to say that the 250 would be the better base to start modding (he didn't specify which he had)...

they came in several capacities, but all used the same block, tho i *think* the <200 cube engines were a slightly smaller bore, 200's and 250's used the same bore size

So an alloy head will bolt straight onto an earlier crossflow block?

and they are a much better head i take it?

Yeah it will bolt straight up but all the manifolds are different. Also, because the cast heads don't have locating dowels holding the head gasket in position is a problem. I got round this by cutting the heads off two old head bolts and screwing them in first. Then drop the head gasket over these then the head. Put all the other head bolts in and then remove the first two and replace with normal head bolts. Other than that they bolt straight up.
