I've had one on my falcon for a couple of yrs now, gets fair amount of use and only thing that has happenned in that time (which may or may not be attributed to the shift kit) is drive plate bolts (the ones that hold the convertor) started getting loose, but not a big deal - just tightened up again and fine. That was probably 12 months ago now.
So I reckon it's a good thing.

On a stock car = no point.

On a modifed car, almost essential to improve the life of the clutches. Yes it increases wear on the rest of the drivetrain but your making more power anyway so that will do worse damage than the shift kit.

I don't think there are any benefits to acceleration in either case. It's purely a feel/durability thing.

I know they're popular on the strip, and with good reason. but when was the last time you saw a ford BTR 4 speed auto on the strip?
Thought so.
They aren't a strong box at all, that's why ford no longer puts them in anything more powerful than a base 6 cyl.
haven't heard of any driveline breakages full stop. box always goes first, shift kit or not.

If you're that worried about it.. just leave it turned off most the time or fit a transmission cooler.

heat is a big killer of BTR autos. So any extra cooling is a good idea.

CAPA is selling a automatic transmission improvement kit for ED-EL for $393 and a heavy duty cooler for $264. Anybody know what the kit does? Sounds too expensive to be a shift kit.

Don't quote me on it, but I think the v8's came with a bigger cooler, and I'm pretty sure those fitted with the factory H/Duty tow kit had a bigger one again. If I'm right, and you wanna save a quid, duck into your nearest ford wrecker and ask, they'll probably be cheap as...

If you want the biggest, get a taxi spec cooler. I've got one.
