Right, got a bit of a problem with the EL.
It started intermittently last Thursday when going to work, when taking off the car would chug a little bit, stutter almost. Thought it may have been misfiring worse (it's always had a small one) so Friday night threw new leads and plugs on. While doing that found the dizzy cap was a bit loose, one of the clips wasn't on properly, but it was still sitting in place fine. Re-fitted that clip properly. Since then, the miss at idle got a bit better, but it has slowly started chugging even worse. It was originally only if you took off quickly, but is now doing it pretty much every time you take off. Only for half a second or so, and wont really do it at speed if you put your foot down. Now i've got no idea what it could be, thought it could perhaps be the auto. But for some reason I keep thinking it's the miss that has gotten worse. What do you people think? Has anyone had similar problems with an Auto Falcon, and what fixed it. Cheers, Tom.

Hi Tom... Long time no hear from...
Could be the ignition timing. If its retarded a bit you'd be lacking in a little power and it will cause the engine to 'pause' for a second before taking off, mainly noticable if you hit the throttle quick and put it under load |

well, if the problem only came since you re-fitted your dizzy cap, i'd say that its the actual dizzy cap or whole distributor that the problem

No, was evident before the dizzy cap was touched. Has got progressivley worse since. Changing leads, plugs and re-fitting dizzy cap didn't seem to affect it.
Think I will ring mechanic tommorow, it's starting to get a bit out of my leauge, as I don't own a timing light and don't want to start guessing and replacing things, when I'm not really sure what it is. Thanks for everyone's advice so far, will keep you posted on progress, and let me know if anyone has a brainwave on what it may be.

I've seen bolts come slightly loose... Dizzys slowly turn over a while.
Maybe the bolt was slightly loose and now you have played with the leads and stuff its turned it a little more. If your in the Western Suburbs in the near future Tom, let me know and I can quickly check that for you. |

Turns out it was the inlet manifold gasket, split around #6 cylinder, thanks for everybody's suggestions!
