hey people
I have a 91 ea with 3.9 cfi and 4 speed electronic auto trans
Im able to get my hands on a 4.0 mpfi with ecu and loom just wondering how i'd go running my trans of new ecu would it still work?
any thing else Im missing?
I know I would have to swap fuel pump any thing else cheers mike!!

i think all u need is the ECU that suits the engine. like if the engine came out of an ED then get an auto ED ECU. I think the 4 speed tranny are the same from EA - EL? correct me if im wrong.

cool shouldve mentioned the 4.0 out of a 95 falcon were all trans round that date 4 speeds u think? my trans says electronic 4 speed are all 4 speeds elec cheers mike

from ea 2 they were all 4 speeds,,the 4 ltr will work no worries,i've just had mine swapped over,,and getting an el auto installed tomorrow.

you will need the mpfi ecu.

i think smart locks need the BEM? i think thats right.

the engine wouldn't know if the car has smart lock or not,,just get a non smartlock ecu.

so u guys reckon ecu off the 4.0 will run my trans because motor comes with ecu and loom
whats smart lock is that just central locking but smarter :oops:

I have just transplanted the complete motor, gearbox & ecu (dash, smartlock etc) into my mefi EA (non-smartlock). It was a BIG job taking almost three solid weeks. I had a complete car to take the motor, loom etc from. I could not think what the job would be like without the two cars side by side.

my suggestion - without the complete kit don't bother - just install the motor and ecu with existing ecu. (I do ofcourse have a spare ea multipoint intake and ecu & trans ecu)

However something to think about - the car really hauls now - even compared to my EF Fairmont a few Kg lighter helps
