Syphon it out I mean? Because I tried that before with a garden hose in the surge tank (from the top). Garden hose is too big! you need some small clear tubing. Where could I get that from, Repco? And where should I insert it? Hardware stores. Insert it into header tank and down into hose that goes into radiator tank around halfway. From here you will be able to syphon out approx 1/2 of your coolant. Remove top hose from radiator, insert tubing down tank as far as you can. You should be able syphon out most of the coolant from here. I did this when I replaced my water pump, hardly lost a drop.

Make sure the tube coming out on both ends is real clean before the hose is put back on. Dunno Bout the later models (different induction) but on the EA and Bs there is an allen key head bolt on the thermostat housing (passenger side). Remove the bolt and fill the colling system until it runs out here. Put thread tape or sealant back on bolt and replace and finish filling cooling system. Thats the official way. The other way is to fill it up, leave cap off, and run till warm, Squeeze top hose, bubbles should come out in the surge tank. Do this until all bubles are out. Not sure how succesful the second method is.
Please make sure you have somone videotaping the above mentioned. Funniest home videos pay a fairbit for good videos!!!

stuff reusing your water, put the nice clean stuff in, when you take the old lot out it'll help to clean out any muck or anything that's in there.

Thats interesting to know madmax cos the Max Ellery manual is where I got the other info. I'd always done it the second way until I read the manual (you know: what you do after you have f**k it up!

I replaced that hose about 2 months ago, i reused the hose clamps etc and it never leaked. Did you put the hose around the right way.
The one i got had an internal wire and was shaped to fit with an arrow marking radiator end and arrow marking water pump end. cheers. |
