Hello
When driving above 80km/h (approx.) my steering wheel often shakes. The shaking is not a vibration but an actual shudder in the steering wheel. The shaking increases or lessens depending on the quality of the road surface. If I take my hands off the wheel I can actually see the wheel bouncing up and down. I have had the wheels balanced and the tyres inspected on several occassions in an attempt to rectify the problem. If anyone has any suggestions as to what I should be having checked next I would love to hear from you. Regards Anthony |

check the tie rods to see if they are nice and tight and check the tie rod ends for wear. check the rubber boots. u might need to raise the car and shake the lower arms to check if they are loose.....mine were loose and caused my car to steer very dangerously. also ball joints.
good luck phong =P~

I had the same problem in my EL. It turned out as Phongus has aready pointed out, to be a worn tie rod. The end inside the rack boot. cost me $80 to have fixed. Plus wheel alignment after.

Same thing can also happen with wheel bearings..
Ive had this 3 times on 2 of my other cars and each time it was fixed by wheel bearings.. They are easy/cheap, so dont worry too much.

Thank you for your assistance everyone.
I visited my local 'Pedders' workshop today and had them carry out a 28 point safety inspection (steering & suspension). They found the following problems: Front Shocks: Soft, Leaking Oil, Lack Of Control Rear Shocks: Soft, Leaking Oil, Lack Of Control Tyres: Scalloped, Feathered Steering Column: Slight Freeplay Steering Pump: Fluid Discoloured & Burnt I have been quoted the following prices: Front Shocks: $292.00 Front Bump Stops: $51.00 Rear Shocks: $160.00 Rear Bump Stops: $51.00 Flush & Replace Steering Fluid: $150.00 Wheel Alignment: $55.00 Labour: $165.00 TOTAL: $924.00 (Inc. GST) I would appreciate your opinions on whether this is a rip-off quote or is within the regular ball park price range. Thanks for your help. Anthony |

I have the same problem, to a lesser extent, and Pedders and a brake specialist I've been to both say everything is okay. I have a suspison its my discs, cause I've spun the wheels and they spin freely in one section but not on another, so thats another thing you could look at

Looks like each job has a Labour component. So why the extra $165 on the end?

Have you jacked up each wheel of the car and spun each wheel seperatly,to see if you might have a flat spot in any of your rims.
