Hey all
My mate has a toymota rolla. Besides that please help. Basically we put a kenwood head unit in it. This made whats called "rear lmp" fuse to blow. When the rear lmp fuse was blown we had no rear driving lights (red ones) and no back lights on the dash cluster. We got to a point that when we had the lights on and a new fuse the radio would turn off and the fuse wouldnt blow. We think that the radio is tring to draw too much current from the power lines. With this in mind we replaced both the radio fuse (7.5 to 15) and the rear lmp from 15 to 30 but still the rear lmp fuse blew. HELP!!!!!!

I've got 3 thoughts.
1. You have the headunit ground wire connected to the cars lighting circuit instead of a real ground. If you used a multimeter and tested the wires, and it showed as ground it could still be lighting - test again with lights on. Some older headunits didnt have a ground wire in the loom, it connected straight to the car body. This one seems most likely. 2. Power wire is VERY thin. If the wire causes a lot of resistance, the headunit will draw higher current too compensate for the drop in voltage. Blowing the fuse. 3. Common speaker wiring. ie. left -ve and right -ve wires from speakers are joined together. Causes funny things to happen. Lots of older cars are like this. newer - dont know.

take it out, and wire it in again then make sure u have ur power lines right, sounds like u have a short, between acc and gnd

You should never just up-spec a fuse, Thats how fires are started.

OK..
I pulled it out. I tested the wires my self. Seems that if we connected both the 12 straight and acc on the head unit to the acc on the car the fuse woulf blow or head unit will lose power. We we did this but to the straight power it would do exactly the same. We have a feeling its the earth. We think thats connected to the lights but doesnt explain why.

ground it to a metal part of the car and see if you still have the problem. Sounds strange tho, have you checked where the power on your two lines actually comes from? is it on the lighting cct? or is it seperate?
