Hi guys, i had a bit of a search and couldnt really find anything specific to my quest.

I am soon to be getting an XG XR6 motor (the 4.0 MPFI one).

What i am wondering is wether to

a) put the XR6 head/cam on my current block and do up my standard head/cam

OR

b) just do up the XR6 head/cam.

Will there be any difference/advantages in doing it either way? Obviously it would be easier to do up the XR head as i would only have to change them once.

All comments appreciated

You get the Tickford logo on the front if you keep the ticky head. JUst keep your standard one on, take the new head it to be done, then fit it. As for the cam, ditch both and go with an aftermarket one, if you go to get a regrind, send them your stock one rather as the resale value on the tickford one will be higher and it makes no difference to them if you send them a ticky one or standard as it's going to be grinded.

Work the standard one, if you are going all out, massive port job.
Sell Ticky one later, seeing as nobody pays much for 91AA's, but a ticky head is worth something.
I have heard, but not seen, that the Tickford heads have smaller port sizes anyway, for intake velocity, so going all out on one is probably waste of alloy.
If you are only getting minor work, bit of a polish up, standard valves, do the Ticky.

When you get the engine, tell us the casting number on Tickford head.

I should be getting it this weekend so will have a look at it, probably at least pull the head off, see how it looks.

Not too sure how far i am going to go with work yet, have to think about what sort of money i want to spend. My missus drives it mostly so it ahs to be sort of user friendly.

I'd just get the Ticky one cleaned up then personally.
Full reco, light port work.
Could even have a crack yourself, 'WagonDad' has a thread on doing his, and if doing something basic you really don't need to take much, if any metal off.
