Sounds like the cable is suffering from the poor RF shielding provided by the join in question.

For a full pov-solution, wrap the joint in some aluminium foil.

For a better solution, make a proper Y-harness or buy one!

What your after is a Ground Loop Isolator. I got an Aepro one in from work (Repco) was like $10.00 and did the job no worries at all. It happened on my front amp when I put one for the front speakers, was reasonably cheap cabling and reasonably cheap amp. I put corregated tubing around all the wires and split the speaker and RCA wires as far awayfrom the power wires as possiable with no help. The Ground Loop Isolator did the trick, did lower the amps output volume a tad, but just adjust the gain a tad higher to compensate!
