If there is another forum addressing this could someone point it out because i can't find anything so far...
I'm looking to create an instantaneous fuel flow gauge for my AUIII XR6. I don't want one of those 5 sec increment one's that come with trip computers cause i reckon they're crap. Has anyone made one for their car? Otherwise, I'm happy to sit down and make one and write up a doco for it. In that case, does anyone know anywhere that sells fuel flow rate or fuel pressure gauges/meters?

most decent gauge makers have fuel pressure guages
an issue i see with your idea of a fuel flow meter is you'd need one on the return line as well so you'd get an accurate figure

thats right. the only way to do it accurately is to run either flow rate or pressure (easy to work out flow rate from pressure) on either side of the fuel rail and the difference between the two is the fuel usage. i can use some of the electronics stuff i'm learning at uni to make a circuit to make it work.

i'd like to know how you're gonna figure out the flow rate given the pressure differential given that you've got a fuel pump forcing fuel at a high pressure towards injectors and a regulator, and virtually no pressure in the return line as there is no restriction
you really need 2 inline flowmeters to figure it out more to the point, why do you want to know how much fuel you're using at any given time? without going into some fancy programming, the best you'll be able to figure out is litres per minute/hour, which isnt really usefull

you can work a lot of this out using fluid mechanics theory. i just did 6 monts of pipe flow theory at uni so that won't be a problem.
as for my motivation, just something i always want to do. what unit i choose to use for measurements doesn't really matter. the setup that i'll end up doing will really depend upon what works best in terms of hardware. there won't be any need for any software or cpu processing.

using your theory, whats the airflow in a compressor tank at a pressure of 100PSI and an outside air pressure at sea level?

considering that its a tank, which is sealed, the net mass flow rate is zero. What's your point?
